Supporting our local communities

Van Hage support a large amount of charities, schools and community projects. We do this is multiple different ways including providing donations of products, vouchers for raffles, horticultural advice and much more. Below are just some of the charities and schools that we promote in the local area.

Isabel Hospice

Founded in 1982, the charity was set up to enhance the quality of life of patients living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in eastern Hertfordshire.

Mrs Van Hage was a proud patron of the charity and we continue to provide much needed support in her absence.
The hospice regularly attends Van Hage to raise awareness and promote up and coming events. Van Hage is also the proud host of the annual AGM which takes place in September.

With Christmas comes a time to remember lost loved ones and every November the Lights of Love ceremony takes place at Van Hage. A time to reflect and reminisce about lost loved ones and friends. During the ceremony there is a short service of remembrance, the singing of carols and a countdown to the lighting of the tree. All names are then placed into the ‘Book of Love’.

As well as hosting events, we also donate an array of items to the hospice from Christmas Trees to Gift Vouchers.

Herts Air Ambulance

The Herts Air Ambulance, is a charity providing a free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) for Hertfordshire. Dependant on the kind donations from businesses and the general public, we see this charity to be extremely important to the local community providing much needed support.

On a regular basis, the Herts Air Ambulance Lottery fund visits our store to promote and raise money for the charity.
In 2011 we donated a range of garden furniture to the charity to be used within their head office.

Amwell View School

Established in 1963, Amwell View School educates children who have a statement of Special Educational Needs. Over the years it has developed and flourished to provide ‘Outstanding Education’ for 110 children with Severe Learning Difficulties.
Being extremely local to our Great Amwell store we aim to assist this fantastic school as much as possible.

Over the course of many years we have assisted in planting a garden at the school, donated Christmas trees and provided many raffle prizes

Ware in Bloom
Ware in Bloom is an initiative aimed at improving the town of Ware as a place to live, work and visit. The aim of the organisation is to create more visually attractive spaces in and around the town.

Being a garden centre, Van Hage is able to support Ware in Bloom a great deal on a number of projects throughout the year. The type of support that is generally provided is the donation of plants and horticultural advice.
